WTT Singapore Grand Slam: National table tennis team victorious on the first day, Wang Manyu faces tough challenge

People’s Daily Online, Beijing, March 11th (Reporter Li Naiyan) – The 2024 World Table Tennis Professional League (WTT) Singapore Grand Slam kicked off on March 10th, with the national table tennis team showcasing their skills and securing victories in the competition.

The WTT Singapore Grand Slam marks the first WTT Grand Slam of the 2024 season and serves as a crucial platform for the national table tennis team to fine-tune their performance ahead of the Paris Olympics. With 6 men and 6 women competing, the Chinese team aims to achieve stellar results.

In the men’s singles category, Fan Zhendong faced off against Australian player Lu Wei in a hard-fought match. Despite initial challenges, Fan Zhendong managed to clinch victory with a score of 11-8, 11-9, and 11-9. Reflecting on his performance, Fan Zhendong acknowledged the tough competition and expressed his determination to continue improving.

Meanwhile, Lin Shidong and Liang Jingkun also emerged victorious in their respective matches, setting the stage for an exciting showdown between Fan Zhendong and Lin Shidong in the next round.

In the women’s singles competition, Wang Manyu encountered a formidable opponent in Indian player Akula. Despite facing tough competition, Wang Manyu displayed resilience and managed to secure a hard-earned victory in the decisive game.

Additionally, Chen Meng demonstrated dominance in her match against Japanese player Miyu Nagasaki, winning with a clean sweep and limiting her opponent to only 16 points throughout the game.
