The openers
The starters for the highly anticipated Opening Day matchup between the Houston Astros and the New York Yankees have been announced. Framber Valdez will take the mound for the Astros, while Néstor Cortés will pitch for the Yankees.
This will be Valdez’s third consecutive season starting on Opening Day for the Astros. The Dominican pitcher previously secured a victory in 2022 against the Los Angeles Angels, and in 2023 he went to a no-decision in a game against the Chicago White Sox. Valdez will look to continue his success on Opening Day this year.
On the other side, Néstor Cortés will be making his first Opening Day start for the Yankees. The Cuban pitcher takes over the role from the injured Gerrit Cole, who has started the season opener for the past four years. Cortés will be looking to make a strong impression in his debut on Opening Day.
Baseball fans can expect an exciting matchup between these two talented pitchers as they kick off the start of the season. Stay tuned for more updates on this highly anticipated game.
