Yunnan Athletes Shine in “14th Winter” Competition

Since the Beijing Winter Olympics, Yunnan Province has been making waves in the world of ice and snow sports. Overcoming limitations of venue, climate, and other conditions, athletes from Yunnan showcased their talent and determination in the recent “14th Winter” competition.

The Yunnan Provincial Winter Sports Team has been actively preparing for various competitions by maintaining physical fitness, selecting young talents, and expanding projects. With the goal of preparing for the Milan Winter Olympics and the 14th National Winter Games, the team took multiple measures including independent training and joint training to optimize their competition plan. As a result, a total of 3,236 athletes were selected in 24 batches, ranking 6th in the country in terms of the number of selectees.

Among the selected athletes are individuals from various ethnic minority groups such as Pumi, Tibetan, Lahu, and Zhuang. These athletes have made significant contributions to the ice and snow sports industry in Yunnan and have left their mark on Chinese ice and snow sports history.

Li Guangyan, captain of the Yunnan Provincial Sports Work Team, praised the ethnic minority ice and snow athletes, stating that their success is a testament to Yunnan’s cross-border and cross-sport selection work. He emphasized their innate physical advantages, strong will, and dedication to honing their skills over time.

The emergence of these talented athletes has not only brought recognition to Yunnan but has also contributed to the growth of ice and snow sports in China. Their achievements in the “14th Winter” competition are a testament to their hard work and determination.
