Ubisoft Announces Development Plans for “Assassin’s Creed” Series

The highly anticipated latest episode of the Assassin’s Creed series is set to be launched in October 2023, but fans already have something to look forward to as the studio has announced its development plans for subsequent games. Ubisoft recently released the first trailer for the upcoming game, “Assassin’s Creed Codename Red,” which is rumored to potentially be released this year.

In a significant shift from their previous strategy, Ubisoft revealed that future games in the series will be launched on the Assassin’s Creed Infinity platform, connecting the plots of different episodes of the game. The first game to be launched on this platform, “Assassin’s Creed Codename Red,” takes players to Japan during the feudal period, where they can expect to play as ninja and samurai characters.

Arisa Lagunzad, head of business development and brand cooperation at Ubisoft, hinted at the company’s ambitious plans for the game on LinkedIn, stating that they are seeking Japanese partners to make “Assassin’s Creed Codename Red” the most powerful game of 2024. However, she later edited her post to refer to the game’s release for the following year.

According to Ubisoft’s third-quarter sales report for 2023-2024, the company aims to launch “Assassin’s Creed Codename Red” in the 2024/25 fiscal year, but there is still hope for players to get their hands on the game sooner than expected.

The game is set to feature a dual protagonist mode with female character Naoe and male character Yasuke. Naoe, the daughter of a renowned ninja, seeks to avenge her father’s death, while Yasuke, inspired by the real historical figure Oda Nobunaga’s black retainer, will bring his samurai skills to the game.

Famous historical figures such as Oda Nobunaga, Toyotomi Hideyoshi, and Akechi Mitsuhide will also make appearances in the game, which will boast an open-world map larger than “Assassin’s Creed: Viking Age” but smaller than “Assassin’s Creed: Odyssey.”
