Chinese Netizen Tests Intel’s Core Processors for Stability Issues

In recent news, Chinese netizen kmdkai has conducted extensive testing on Intel’s 13th and 14th generation Core desktop processors to investigate stability issues. Despite board manufacturers adding security options to the Intel Baseline Profile to improve stability, kmdkai found that the problems of crashes and exceptions were not reduced.

As a studio business owner who relies on high-end computers, kmdkai purchased no less than a hundred Core i9-level processors and conducted rigorous testing on various motherboards. The results revealed that the Core i9-13900K had a survival rate of 40-50%, which could be increased by adjusting BIOS settings or switching to a B series motherboard.

However, the Core i9-14900K faced significant challenges, with only a 20% pass rate on Z series motherboards. Even with BIOS modifications, the stability of the processor was limited. Kmdkai also tested the Intel Baseline Profile but concluded that it was “completely useless”.

The switch from Z series to B series motherboards showed promise in improving stability, as the former’s aggressive tuning parameters may contribute to instability. Core i7-13700K processors performed better in terms of stability compared to Core i9 models, with all passing the tests.

While kmdkai’s testing conditions may be stringent for ordinary users, he noted that most people do not subject their processors to high loads 24/7. Despite sporadic computer crashes with his own Core i9-14900K personal computer, kmdkai deemed it acceptable within normal usage parameters.

The findings highlight the ongoing challenges with Intel’s Core processors and the importance of thorough testing to ensure stability in high-performance computing environments. As manufacturers and users navigate these issues, the quest for reliable and stable processors continues.
