Tesla Model Y Juniper Redesign: What to Expect

The Tesla Model Y is an SUV crossover that has taken the electric car market by storm. First introduced in March 2019, with deliveries beginning in March 2020, it has quickly become a best-seller. Now, rumors of a redesign, internally known as Project Juniper, are swirling.

Similar to the redesign of the Model 3, the Model Y Juniper is expected to undergo significant changes both inside and out. These changes will not only update the vehicle’s appearance and features, but also improve efficiency and reduce production costs.

Exterior changes will mimic the design of the Tesla Model 3 Highland, with updated headlights, a more aerodynamic bumper, and a sportier overall look. The rear area will also see modifications, making it more efficient and simplifying manufacturing.

In terms of interior changes, the Model Y Juniper is expected to see a complete overhaul. New materials will give the vehicle a more premium appearance while maintaining the brand’s minimalistic design. The absence of levers will be a standout feature, with turning now being controlled via haptic buttons and smart software, adding a new level of convenience and modernity to the vehicle.

In terms of the vehicle’s batteries, it is unlikely that Tesla will introduce new ones with the Model Y Juniper. Rather, improvements in aerodynamics and overall vehicle weight will contribute to increased autonomy without raising the car’s price.

While the exact release date for the Model Y Juniper has not been announced, reports suggest that it could be available from the second half of 2024. As with the Model 3 Highland, it is expected to first go on sale in Asia and Europe before reaching the North American market.

Finally, while the price for the Model Y Juniper has not been announced, it is anticipated that it will likely remain in line with the current model. However, as with all Tesla vehicles, price changes are common and could potentially occur before the launch of the updated model.
