WhatsApp Working on New Feature to Strengthen User Privacy

LOS ANGELES, UNITED STATES.- WhatsApp, one of the most used messaging applications in the world, is reportedly working on a new function aimed at enhancing the privacy of its users. According to a report by WABetaInfo on WhatsApp beta version 2.24.4.25, the company is developing a feature that would prevent other users, including contacts, from taking screenshots of a user’s profile image.

Currently, WhatsApp allows users to hide their profile image and control who can see it through privacy options such as “Everyone”, “Nobody”, “My Contacts”, and the ability to hide it from selected people in the list of contacts. This new feature would take it further by actively restricting the ability to take screenshots of the profile image, enhancing user privacy.

While this feature is not yet widely available and seems to be part of a limited implementation in the beta, it signifies improvements in user privacy. However, it is important to note that this restriction will not prevent people from using external cameras to capture the image or saving a contact’s display image via WhatsApp Web.

Other messaging apps like Telegram and Signal have different approaches to protecting your profile picture. Telegram allows users to limit who can see their profile picture from the privacy and security settings, while Signal does not allow people to save their screen images directly, although they can still take screenshots.

It is crucial to stay updated with the latest updates and features that messaging apps are implementing to protect user privacy.
