The programmer Aleksandr Zhadan, specialized in neural networks, started from these assumptions when he felt the need to engage in a new relationshipafter being single for about two years.
“I was looking for a girl on Tinder in Moscow and St. Petersburg. After a couple of weeks of talking, I went on dates, but they hit a dead end.”
At that point Zhadan thought of “simplifying” the search for a soul mate by using GPT-3one of the artificial intelligence models behind ChatGpt.
Leveraging the technology of OpenAIthe San Francisco company that created ChatGpt, the boy wrote a program capable of identifying girls on Tinder “with at least 2 profile photos” and tastes similar to his. The AI then conversed with potential girlfriends automatically.

All Zhadan had to do was train the AI. The experiment began at the end of 2022 and in a certain sense the Russian programmer anticipated the current ones GPTpersonalized artificial intelligences that anyone can create if paired with ChatGPt Plus.
So the programmer instructed the AI to behave like a boy “talking to a girl for the first time.” The AI’s job was to invite her on a date, “but not right away.”

The program conversed with 5,239 women on Tinder. Not without problems.
An early version of the software, for example, proposed “a long walk in the woods” to a girl. And then she promised things—for example, flowers and chocolates—without telling Zhadan. Which at that point was organised: before each outing, asked the AI for a summary of the conversations entertained with a girl.
In the end the AI managed to organize 100 appointments which Zhadan attended, of course, in person. One of these allowed him to meet his future wife: Karina Vyalshakaeva.

When the girl found out that Zhadan had started talking to her via ChatGpt, she was more surprised than upset.
According to Vyalshakaeva, Tinder’s initial advantage it’s knowing a person’s interests, hobbies and possibly even values. At this early stage, the AI that showed up in place of her future husband behaved “impeccably.”
