New surprise hit delights hundreds of thousands of players on Steam

With “Content Warning” there is a new surprise hit on Steam. You can find out here what the game is all about and where its success comes from.

“Content Warning” follows a rather unusual concept and combines shallow horror elements with cute graphics. The style is pretty rudimentary. You shouldn’t expect a highly polished look. The aim of the game is to explore scary places together with up to three players and film content for the fictional video platform “SpöökTube”. Of course, the places are teeming with terrible monsters.

You have three in-game days to create content for your channel. After the three days, your viewers will decide whether the material was good enough or not. If the videos are well received, you can play another round in the game. Otherwise the project ends at this point and you have to start over.

The further you go, the better equipment you can purchase to deliver more and more interesting content. You can coordinate via an integrated voice chat. Does it all sound pretty complicated? Then just watch the corresponding trailer here.

The concept is apparently working. The game was released on April 1st and just one day later, “Content Warning” already had over 200,000 simultaneous players on Steam. Of the over 21,000 reviews, 96 percent are positive. To promote the release, the horror co-op was initially available for free for a short time. 7.79 euros are now due. A completely reasonable price. Anyone who follows the gaming scene more actively will probably see clear parallels to “Lethal Company”. The game uses a very similar concept and also became a surprise hit within a few days at the end of 2023. “Lethal Company” had around 240,000 simultaneous players at its peak. Simple and fun co-op games have not yet gone out of fashion.
