Dengue fever spreads worldwide: Brazil suffers from epidemic – Health

The place where the viruses spread and the place where they are fought are not a stone’s throw away from each other. The Lagoa do Porangabussu is a stagnant, nutrient-enriched body of water whose poorly maintained infrastructure is hopelessly overwhelmed by the massive growth of the metropolis of Fortaleza in northeastern Brazil. All around there are small favelas, disordered and unplanned settlements. The sewage system works inadequately, and there are a lot of murky puddles and stagnant watercourses around the Lagoa. Even in the middle of the day in scorching heat, some bite, especially those of the genus Aedes aegypti, the Egyptian tiger mosquito. It transmits a variety of viruses to humans that cause illness. Above all, there are always new diseases.
