HR study analyzes job expectations of women in Germany

Cologne, March 27, 2024 – Cegid, a leading provider of cloud business management solutions for human resources (payroll, talent management), is examining the working reality of female employees in Germany in an HR study. This shows that, despite a frequently discussed wish for flexibility and independence, traditional work structures continue to enjoy great popularity.

Only 15% of female employees would like to have a part-time job for their career, 5% would like to work freelance. For a total of 71% of female employees who had a management position firmly anchored in their career plans, part-time work turned out to be a significant obstacle to their career advancement. Particularly among 35 to 49-year-olds, a third experienced that such working models limited career opportunities.

While one in two 50 to 65-year-olds did not want a managerial position for their career, only 26% of 18 to 49-year-olds have ruled this out for themselves. The majority of them are undecided about taking on leadership roles (53%). The results of Cegid’s latest HR study highlight the complexity of professional development and the challenges women face when shaping their careers.

“Part-time work requires a high degree of flexibility and organization, especially if you have leadership ambitions. I recently reduced my role as Marketing Manager DACH at Cegid to part-time in order to have more time for my family. It’s a balancing act, every day. Nevertheless, I am convinced that meaningful part-time work is not only possible, but can also be an example of modern leadership,” says Denise König, Field Marketing Manager DACH at Cegid.
