Technology Diary — March 21, 2024

Again, no photos of the dream technology

In the dream I pull a sleigh, at first on all fours like a sled dog. While we’re waiting at the traffic light next to my old school, another sled dog comes and licks my forehead. His owner apologizes. “Oh no, he’s scratching an itch,” I say, because I don’t have a free front paw right now. As soon as I pull up to the traffic lights, I’m standing on two legs, I’ve got skis on and we’re in the Arctic Circle. We have to stop again immediately, because here a swimming pool borders a cross-country ski run, and hundreds of people have left their technology possessions in the snow, on shelves made of snow – it looks like the windows of Neukölln used technology stores. I need photos for the technology diary. Even in my dreams I justify to myself why this really has to be the case and why these devices are more worth photographing than others: Firstly, the sight shows that everything stored here has become so commonplace and widespread that one is not afraid of theft. And secondly, you will be able to see in my photos what people here really use in everyday life. They are all small, unspecific devices, the size between a cell phone and a smartwatch. Despite the polar night, my cell phone camera refuses to take photos with flash. Maybe I won’t be able to use the photos for the technology diary later, but I can’t think about that now, I have to move on.
