With the S1000W, EDIFIER offers an exciting 2.0 speaker system. So we donāt just have two large bookshelf speakers, but a significantly larger range of functions.
In addition to Bluetooth, the EDIFIER S1000W also supports WLAN! Exciting, the speakers could also completely replace a small sound system.
But of course only if the speakers sound good and the software support is good. This is exactly what we want to find out in the test!
At this point, many thanks to EDIFIER for providing the S1000W.
The EDIFIER S1000W in the test
The design of EDIFIER can be described as quite special. The S1000W also relies on a kind of retro design.
The speakers are made of wood, which was also left natural on the sides or even veneered with a wood look. The front with the drivers, however, is colored black. However, there is still a slight retro feel.
At 198x345x295 mm and a weight of over 16 kg (for both speakers) these are a bit bigger! From a purely visual point of view, they are undoubtedly large enough to provide sound for a living room.
There is nothing to complain about when it comes to the quality of workmanship and feel! The speakers are solid and of high quality.
The electronics are housed in the right speaker. However, EDIFIER has completely dispensed with buttons or rotary wheels on the front. These are completely attached to the back.
This would be a point I would complain about, and I continue to do so, but EDIFIER at least provides a good remote control. This is one of the better remote controls Iāve seen on such speakers so far.
On the back of the primary speaker we also find three rotary wheels.

We also have the connections on the back:
Line In (Cinch) 1 Line In (Cinch) 2 Optical input Coax input Speaker output C8 Power cable plug
If we consider that Bluetooth and WLAN are also built into the speaker, this is fantastic connectivity!
It would be easily possible to connect these speakers to a television, CD player, record player, etc., as well as to play ādigitallyā via your smartphone via Bluetooth or WLAN.
Super!
Special speaker cable
One point that I have to criticize about the EDIFIER S1000W is the speaker cable, which is a proprietary 5 pin/contact cable.
A sufficiently long cable is included, but if you need an āextraā amount of cable it will be problematic.
What can the WLAN āmoduleā do?
What does the WLAN in the EDIFIER S1000W bring you? First of all, the EDIFIER app is pretty useless outside of setting it up and connecting to your WiFi.
Music is streamed ādirectlyā from the respective apps/applications to the speaker. What is supported here?
Spotify Connect
Amazon Alexa (as a steaming target)
Apple AirPlay 2
TIDAL Connect
For example, in Spotify you can (after the speakers are connected to your WiFi) simply select the speaker as a playback device. This then wakes up from standby within a few seconds and begins playback, which you then control via the Spotify app.
It works similarly with the other services. So as long as you use a supporting service, the speaker works very well!
Sound that EDIFIES the S1000W
Letās get to the exciting and important point: how do the EDIFIER S1000W sound?
Of all the WLAN speakers I have had in my hands so far, the EDIFIER S1000W clearly offers the best and highest quality sound! Admittedly most models like the Teufel Home are semi-portable, but if thatās not important to you, the S1000W are fantastic.
But letās start at the beginning. First of all, it is important to know that you can adjust the treble and bass of the speaker to your liking. If you want a little more or less bass/treble, this is possible to a certain extent.
Basically, the EDIFIER S1000W have fastatic highs. These are wonderfully clear, clean and very brilliant. For my taste the highs are just perfect. These radiate a great lightness and āairinessā. In detail, these can be a bit sharp, especially if you turn them up a little further, but this didnāt bother me.
The mids, on the other hand, are a little thinner. These arenāt bad, but the lower mids and upper basses in particular are perhaps a bit muted. This is not dramatic here, but EDIFIER seems to focus somewhat on the strong high/low contrast.
The bass, on the other hand, is super exciting. We have very good depth and deep bass with the EDIFIER S1000W! In my smaller office, these can easily produce bass at room volume that is noticeable in your stomach (especially if you turn it up a bit). However, the upper bass ranges are not boosted as much. As a result, the speaker doesnāt sound overly bass-heavy, but has a decent thump in the low end.
I really like this very dynamic sound signature! We have a very pronounced high/low contrast, but it hasnāt been taken to the absolute extreme.
This means the speakers sound high-quality and very dynamic/lively.
The general resolution of the speaker also meets the HiFi standards! Even the level stability is strong. So Iām very happy with the sound!
Conclusion
Are you looking for an all-round sound system with very good sound and a wide range of connections? Then youāve come to the right place with the EDIFIER S1000W.
The first highlight is certainly the connections and connection options. 2x RCA, 2x digital inputs, Bluetooth and WLAN are absolutely great! The WiFi features are admittedly not super extensive, but if you use Spotify, Apple AirPlay 2, etc., this isnāt a problem. Then everything you need is there.
It would be possible to connect the speakers in parallel to a television, CD and record player and at the same time feed them ādigitalā signals via Bluetooth or WLAN.
In addition, it has a very good sound! We have a very dynamic sound signature, with great highs and a wonderful low end. The latter in particular is impressive.
This means that the EDIFIER S1000W clearly outperforms models like the Teufel Home and other āsemi-portable smart home speakersā. You can clearly fill a living room with sound with the EDIFIER S1000W.
Therefore, if you are looking for all-round speakers and the size and design of the EDIFIER S1000W suits you, then these are a great choice!
