A revolutionary milestone has been reached at the Ophthalmology Clinic of the Polyclinic of Bari with the realization of the first intercontinental remote surgery for the treatment of keratoconus. The operation was monitored electronically by World Keratoconus Congress di Dubaimarking a historic moment in ophthalmic medicine.
The success of the surgery represented a significant advance in the treatment of keratoconus, a degenerative disease of the cornea that can lead to severe vision impairment. The first remote keratoconus surgery

From the Le Méridien Conference Center in Dubai, Professor Giovanni Alessio directed the operation in real time, using the iVis remote control station. The surgery combined corneal remodeling techniques e crosslinking to optimize the patient’s vision and prevent further damage to the cornea.
