German Government Investing in Game Development
The German government is making a significant investment in incentivizing game development in the country. At the recent German Computer Games Awards, German developers had the chance to win cash prizes and trophies. The award for best international game went to Baldur’s Gate III, although no cash prize was included.
Michael Kellner, parliamentary state secretary at the German Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Climate Action, expressed his hopes that German studios will be able to create games as impressive as Larian’s masterpiece. He stated, “As a federal government, we want to make an important contribution to this with our new games funding. This funding will help ensure that games like this year’s best international games can continue to be developed in Germany as well.”
It is well-known that the games industry in countries like the UK and France have grown significantly through federal funding schemes. With the German government now backing game development in the country, there is hope that Germany could become a gaming powerhouse in the future.
This investment in game development could lead to more innovative and successful games coming out of Germany in the future, attracting international attention and boosting the country’s reputation in the gaming industry.
