Bitdefender Discovers Vulnerabilities in LG Smart TVs, 91,000 Devices at Risk

Internet security company Bitdefender has sounded the alarm on vulnerabilities in the WebOS operating system running WebOS 4~7 on LG Smart TVs. Hackers are able to bypass the TV authorization mechanism and execute arbitrary commands, putting more than 91,000 devices at risk.

According to Shodan Internet scans, South Korea has the highest number of vulnerable devices, with approximately 50,000 affected TVs, followed by Hong Kong with nearly 7,400 devices in danger. Bitdefender reported the vulnerability to LG in 2023, and the company has since released security updates to address the issue.

The vulnerabilities are mainly concentrated in four LG TV models, including the 43UM7000 and three 4K OLED TVs: 55CX, 48C1, and 55A2. Users are urged to update their devices with the latest patches as soon as possible to prevent unauthorized access and potential security breaches.
