Xiaomi Poco X6 Pro in the test: The best smartphone under 350 euros

As a sub-brand from Xiaomi, Poco offers powerful smartphones with a good price-performance ratio. The predecessor Poco X5 Pro (test report) convinced us as a strong overall package and no longer a very secret tip among smartphones. We have now tested the potent successor, the Poco X6 Pro. Our test shows whether the device is convincing or not.

What are the highlights?

Xiaomi’s Poco X6 Pro 5G is one of the fastest smartphones in its price class. Making it a good option as a gaming smartphone. The battery life is also impressive. The bright display with high resolution is also really good. The main camera also takes decent pictures during the day, but has some room for improvement in the dark. The other two lenses are not worth mentioning. But the package is more than harmonious for a price starting at 329 euros for the gray version. The fancier model in yellow costs around 343 euros.

How is the processing?

We tested the yellow model with a synthetic leather back. It looks great and is very reminiscent of the outfit of the protagonist from Tarantino’s masterpiece “Kill Bill”. The surface is also very easy to grip. The model in gray or black, however, comes with a plain plastic cover.

The Poco X6 Pro appears to be of high quality, even if the frame is also made entirely of plastic. Protection against water and dust is only available to a limited extent with IP54. This protects the housing against the ingress of dust and splash water. If you want more, you have to go for the slightly more expensive Redmi Note 13 Pro+ 5G (test report).

How good is the display?

One of the biggest strengths is the 6.67-inch display with OLED panel. This offers features that until recently were only reserved for a flagship. This includes the high brightness, with which the display can be read outdoors even in sunshine. Also worth mentioning is the high resolution of 2712 × 1220 pixels, which creates a sharp and, above all, beautiful image. The refresh rate of 120 Hertz ensures a smooth display when scrolling or playing animations and games. The fingerprint scanner in the display also works quickly and reliably. Due to its size, one-handed operation of the Poco X6 Pro is out of the question.

What can the camera do?

The main camera has a 64 megapixel lens. There is also a wide-angle lens with 8 megapixels and an actually unnecessary macro lens with 2 megapixels. The main camera takes good, sharp photos during the day with natural colors and high image details. The dynamic range is also good, although there is still room for improvement compared to more expensive smartphones.

The camera combines four pixels into one using pixel binning, so that the images correspond to 16 megapixels. If desired, you can also access the full resolution of 64 megapixels. Night mode effectively brightens recordings. However, photos at night are not entirely free of image noise and tend to have a slightly reddish cast.

The wide-angle camera is less useful in the dark and should only be used during the day. Then the colors don’t deviate much from the main lens, even if the image details remain rather poor. The macro lens is simply unnecessary. The front camera leaves a good impression when taking selfies – except in the dark. Thanks to OIS, the camera effectively stabilizes video recordings. There are hardly any shaky clips. The main camera films up to 4K at 30 FPS or Full HD at 60 FPS.

How good is the equipment?

The Dimensity 8300 proves to be a really fast processor. It offers phenomenal performance for the price range, as evidenced by the excellent results in the PCmark (13,600 points) and “Wild Life Extreme” benchmarks from 3Dmark (3000 points). This means that the chip can easily keep up with a Snapdragon 8 Gen 1+, even if it doesn’t quite match the performance of a Snapdragon 8 Gen 2.

The storage equipment is decent with 8 GB of RAM as well as 256 GB or 12 GB of RAM and 512 GB (UFS 4.0). This is rounded off with Wi-Fi 6 as well as Bluetooth 5.4, NFC and the infrared port from Xiaomi. Only the connection still uses an outdated standard: USB-C 2.0. But this is no better for many other manufacturers in the price range.

How long are updates available?

The new Hyper OS user interface based on Android 14 was already running on our test model. We couldn’t see any major visual difference compared to the previous interface. Xiaomi isn’t exactly stingy with bloatware, which takes up around 40 GB. Xiaomi promises four years of security patches and three major Android updates for the Poco X6 Pro.

How long does the battery last

The large 5000 mAh battery paired with the efficient chip ensures a decent battery life. According to PCmark’s battery test, it lasts around 11.5 hours. So over a day, the Poco can be used in everyday life without any problems – as long as you don’t play with it all the time. The smartphone is quickly charged with 67 watts from 20 to 100 percent in just under 40 minutes. But there is no wireless charging.

How much does the Poco X6 Pro cost?

Currently the cheapest is the gray model with 8/256 GB for 329 euros or with 12/512 GB for 367 euros. The yellow version costs around 343 euros with 8/256 GB and around 380 euros with 12/512 GB. The situation is similar with the black version from 341 euros with 8/256 GB or 367 euros with 12/512 GB. We definitely recommend choosing the version with larger memory.
