[Epoch Times, August 07, 2021]On Friday (August 6), a man with a knife stabbed at least 10 passengers on a commuter train in Tokyo, and some were seriously injured.
The Japan Broadcasting Association (NHK) reported that at around 8:30 pm local time on Friday, a man used a knife to hack at passengers in a train car on the Odakyu Line (the name of the train route) near the Seijo Gakuen-mae station in Setagaya-ku, Tokyo.
At the time of the incident, there were hundreds of passengers on the tram. The driver stopped the tram after hearing a loud noise from the carriage.
The police said the man who used a knife to cut a passenger later jumped off the tram and escaped. The suspected murder weapon and the man’s cell phone fell into the car; the suspect was arrested late Friday.
The Tokyo Fire Department said that 9 of the 10 injured passengers were taken to a nearby hospital, and the 10th passenger was able to leave by himself. Fire department officials said that all the injured were conscious.
A 19-year-old college student witnessed the incident. He said: “Many people had blood on their clothes and fled in panic.”
Another witness told NHK that when the announcer asked the doctor and passengers to provide towels, he saw blood from the (injured) passengers. One of the witnesses said that dozens of paramedics and police arrived at the station.
NHK reported that the suspect walked into a convenience store and said he was tired of fleeing. The store manager called the police after seeing blood on the man’s shirt. The report said the suspect was in his thirties.
According to the tram operator Odakyu Line, most of the line is on the ground, but in the area where the attack occurred, the tram runs underground.
The local police declined to comment and did not immediately provide other details.
