3G Sunrise to increase 5G bandwidth by 50%.

From mid-2025: 50% higher 5G bandwidth by using existing 3G bandwidths

Sunrise It always wants to offer its customers exceptional network quality, thanks to the result recorded in the latest connect survey. To offer higher capacities for more simultaneous and faster connections with Basic 5G (up to 1 Gbit/s), Sunrise plans to use existing 3G bandwidths (5 MHz in the 900 MHz frequency band) for 5G.
Customers will therefore be able to benefit from faster and more stable connections even in the lower frequency bands, especially inside homes.

Sunrise 3G network to be deactivated, timing

Sunrise will decommission obsolete 3G mobile technology by mid-2025.

Currently, 3G plays a marginal role in the use of mobile data, with a share of less than 1%. Even for voice calls, 3G is no longer up to par in terms of stability and conversation quality. In fact, the call drop rate is on average 2.5 times higher than that of 4G. Furthermore, 3G mobile phone coverage, equal to 89.7% of the Swiss national area, is significantly lower than that of 4G, equal to 97.4%.

Affected customers (private individuals and companies) will be informed so that they can prepare promptly for a possible change of SIM (free) and devices. Over 100 Sunrise Shops throughout Switzerland are available to customers to offer advice on any possible adaptation.
