Balenciaga often causes sensation and controversy with the clothing and accessory designs they launch. Not only is it out of the box, the ideas that come from this brand every season are often considered strange to the point of being beyond reason.
This French fashion house really knows the strategy to always be the talk of the town in the fashion industry. Not caring about ridicule here and there, Balenciaga continues to innovate to present products that often make audiences shake their heads or frown.
Often the collections that infuriate the public are objects that are used daily but are marketed at fantastic prices. In fact, if it didn’t bear the ‘Balenciaga’ label, the item could probably be purchased at a much more affordable price.

These are the ‘small change’ but expensive items that Balenciaga has released.
1. Duct Tape Bracelet Rp. 51 Million

Balenciaga releases duct tape-like bracelets worth tens of millions of rupiah. The cream bracelet with the words ‘Balenciaga’ is very similar to a roll of transparent duct tape, and is selling for up to IDR 51 million.
This duct tape bracelet is part of the Balenciaga fall/wonter 2024-25 collection, which was presented at Paris Fashion Week. For the accessory collection, Balenciaga carries the concept of packaging materials as fashion accessories. This bracelet was one of the items that stole attention when the model wore it on the runway on March 3 2024.
2. Towel Skirt Rp. 14.5 Million

For the Spring 2024 collection, Balenciaga presented a skirt that resembles a wrapped towel. This terry cotton skirt is made in Italy and is decorated with the brand’s iconic logo on the front and two buttons and a belt.
The towel skirt is priced at IDR 14.5 million. The release of this skirt caught the attention of IKEA, a Swedish home goods retailer, which created a parody to promote its products.
IKEA released a towel that can be used as a skirt in a similar color for only IDR 307,000. “Introducing the new VINARN Towel Skirt. A 2024 Art Season fashion essential,” wrote IKEA.
3. Rain Boots IDR 25 Million

In September 2023, Balenciaga launched rain boots. The black boots are made from polyurethane, a type of material made from a mixture of plastic and rubber, with an oversized model. There is a Balenciaga logo on the right and left sides, as well as the words ‘Rainboot’.
The price tag for these boots is quite fantastic, worth US$1,650 or around Rp. 25.3 million. Meanwhile boots with the same features and appearance from other brands only cost IDR 3 million.
4. ‘Torn’ hat Rp. 5.5 million

Balenciaga released a torn hat which is priced at a fantastic price. The Laser Destroyed Cap, that’s the name of the hat, sells for US$360 or around Rp. 5.5 million.
The blue hat looks tattered with a destroyed effect. But even though the shape doesn’t look right, the hat embroidered with Balenciaga has successfully become a highlight.
5. Coffee Cup IDR 1.5 Million

This Balenciaga coffee cup is priced at USD 110 or around IDR 1.5 million. The cup is made of 100 percent porcelain with a lid and thermoplastic coating. The cup design is sleek and minimalist and has the iconic ‘Balenciaga’ logo and writings from various popular cities below, such as London, Rome, Seoul, Melbourne and Dubai.
6. Hairpin Rp. 4.6 million

Balenciaga sells clip-style hair clips for US$295 or around Rp. 4.6 million. The hair clip is made of steel with the Balenciaga, BB logo. A set of hair clips consists of two pieces and is available in three color choices.
7. Bottle Cap Earrings IDR 6.3 Million

Balenciaga once again presents the concept of everyday items into a luxury concept. In June 2019, this brand released earrings in the shape of mineral water bottle caps which sold for millions of rupiah.
These earrings are made of metal and blue plastic. Like a mineral water bottle cap, the Balenciaga brand is engraved on it. The thing that makes the earrings from the spring 2019 collection a highlight is the price, namely US$445 or around Rp. 6.3 million.
