An eight-goal drama occurred in the match Barcelona vs Villarreal. The Yellow Submarine was able to steal three points at El Barca’s headquarters after winning 5-3.
Barcelona vs Villarreal took place at the Estadi Olimpic Lluis Companys in Week 22 The League 2023/2024, Sunday, (28/1/2024). The visitors took a 1-0 lead in the first half thanks to a goal from Gerrard Moreno in the 41st minute.
After the break, the Yellow Submarine was able to get away from Illias Akhomach’s score in the 53rd minute. Barcelona then recovered remarkably after scoring three goals in the span of 11 minutes.

The three goals were created by Ilkay Guendogan (60th minute), Pedri (69′) and Eric Baily’s own suicide (71′). In the 84th minute, Barcelona, who were more dominant, lost to Goncalo Guedes’ goal.
A nightmare for Barcelona came in the final minutes of the match. Villarreal was able to score two goals from Alexander Sorloth in the 90+9 minute and Jose Luis Morales in the 90+12 minute.
This result keeps Barcelona stuck in third place with 44 points. Villarreal is in 14th place after winning 23 points.
The Course of the Match
Barcelona appeared dominant at the start of the match. They had a golden chance in the 14th minute.
Joao Felix fired a shot from outside the coach’s box. However, Filip Jorgensen was able to deny his efforts.
Villarreal, who was under a lot of pressure, was able to shake the net through Gerrard Moreno. However, this goal was disallowed because Alexander Sorloth’s movement was offside first.
Moreno was finally able to break into El Barca’s goal in the 41st minute. Sorloth and Moreno’s collaboration again troubled Barcelona’s back line.
Sorloth’s pass was grabbed by Moreno and converted into a goal. Villarreal beat 1-0. This score lasted until halftime.
After the break, Villarreal was able to score a second goal in the 53rd minute. Illias Akhomach was freed after Joao Cancelo couldn’t clear the ball. He was able to calmly defeat Inaki Pena.
Barcelona responded by reducing the deficit three minutes later. Ilkay Guendogan’s measured shot from inside the penalty box flew straight into the left corner of Jorgensen’s goal in the 60th minute.
This goal made Barcelona continue to lock up the Yellow Submarine’s back line. Blaugara was then able to equalize in the 69th minute.
Pedri grabbed a loose ball in front of the goal after Guendogan didn’t shoot perfectly. Jorgensen couldn’t stop his hard kick.
Barcelona was able to take the lead again in the 71st minute. Eric Baily headed Guendogan’s free kick into his own net.
After making an extraordinary comeback, Barcelona actually conceded in the 84th minute. Goncalo Guedes had space on the right side of the penalty box after receiving a pass from Sorloth.
He immediately launched a hard kick. The ball lodged to the right of the Barcelona goal.
The fragility of the back line spelled disaster for Barcelona in the final minutes. Sorloth restored Villarreal’s lead in the 90+9 minute. He grabbed the ball from his first attempt which was blocked by a Barcelona player.
The visitors scored the final goal in the 90+12th minute through Jose Luis Morales. He got his name on the scoreboard after Barcelona’s back line couldn’t block the cross. Barcelona fell at home 5-3.
