(LaPresse) The visit to Taiwan by an unofficial American delegation to Taiwan following the presidential and parliamentary elections “is of great significance.” The outgoing president of Taiwan, Tsai Ing-wen, said this while addressing the same delegation. This initiative, she added, “Not only fully demonstrates the United States‘ support for Taiwan’s democracy, but also highlights the close and solid partnership” between the two countries, Tsai added. Former national security adviser Stephen Hadley declared that “Taiwan’s democracy is a shining example to the world” and that America’s commitment to Taiwan is “rock solid.” Taiwan elected current Vice President Lai Ching-te as its new head of government on Saturday, a move likely to push China to maintain its military, diplomatic and economic threats against the island.
