Blame the leak of sulfonic acid from a truck involved in a road accident

A sulfonic acid spill has caused the formation of a thick white foam on the waters of the Rio Seco river in Joinville, southern Brazil. The acid ended up in the waterway following a road accident involving a lorry. Sulfonic acid is used in the production of detergents and household cleaning materials. Authorities declared a local emergency and closed a treatment station to prevent contaminated water from being released into dozens of neighborhoods.
