A fire broke out in a boat hall in the port of Lachen late on Saturday afternoon. In pictures from news scouts, open flames can be seen on boats, and the column of smoke could be seen for kilometers. According to news scouts, the flames quickly spread to other ships and destroyed them. According to the Schwyz cantonal police, three of the affected boats sank.

“I was kayaking in front of the Aahorn when I noticed smoke shortly after 5 p.m.,” reports a news scout. «Soon I saw that a boat was on fire. Then there were two explosions in quick succession – and then the fire quickly grew larger and a large column of smoke rose up.” He observed what was happening from a safe distance and saw that the flames were spreading to other boats as well as the hall itself.

The Schwyz cantonal police confirmed the fire and stated that extinguishing work was in full swing. The flames had apparently been extinguished around 6 p.m. “The fire is under control, but it still has embers,” explains Kapo media spokesman Pascal Simmen. An oil barrier was built in the harbor basin.

Now it’s a matter of pulling the damaged boats out of the hall and securing traces in order to determine the cause of the fire. “We currently have no reports of anyone injured or missing,” he says.
