Alcaraz: “Sharing the court with Gael is always easier”

Miami (USA) – Spaniard Carlos Alcaraz continues to compete in North American tournaments, after the title in Indian Wells, he has already won two more in the Masters 1000 in Miami, guaranteeing himself in the round of 16. The last triumph was achieved on Monday, beating Frenchman Gael Monfils in straight sets, who received a lot of praise from the world number 2 for his style of play.

“It’s always good to share the court with someone like Gael. I think we both showed a great level of tennis, with great plays throughout most of the match. For fans, it is excellent to see two tennis players playing so well and at the same time entertaining spectators. For me it was a good match, I feel like I landed good shots and moved well, so I’m very happy with my performance today,” said Alcaraz.

“We both try to smile all the time, we try to enjoy tennis every second when we have to play a match. Thanks to this we achieved a good level of play and a spectacle for the fans, something that is also beautiful to see. Sharing the court with a player like Gael is always easier, he makes you smile all the time, he is a different player than the others”, added the young Spaniard.

After arriving in the United States surrounded by doubts, with a below-expected start to the season, Alcaraz won his last eight games. “I’m very happy with the level I’m performing so far, happy with the performances I’ve had so far. I’m really focusing on playing as much as I can at this level, so it’s great to feel so good competing, hopefully I can continue,” he commented.

The search for a ninth consecutive victory will be against the Italian Lorenzo Musetti, tormentor of the home tennis player Ben Shelton. “He is a very talented player, very difficult to face, I think I have a 2-1 advantage (in retrospect), if I’m not mistaken. I really want to play against him, let’s see what happens”, concluded the Spaniard, who lost to Musetti in Hamburg (2022) and beat him at Roland Garros and Beijing, both in 2023.
