US President Joe Biden and his Brazilian counterpart Jair Bolsonaro struck an agreement on the sidelines of the Summit of the Americas to prevent further deforestation of the Amazon. This was announced by the White House.
The US president stressed that the world should help Brazil protect and preserve the Amazon. Biden also acknowledged that Brasilia has made “real sacrifices” to protect the country’s largest tropical forest area, thereby easing the international community’s criticism of the area’s record deforestation rates.
Among the topics dealt with by the two leaders also the war in Ukraine and the efforts to be implemented at the UN Security Council.
