One person was killed and four others injured and taken to hospital after a knife-wielding man carried out a series of random attacks in Amsterdam’s De Pijp neighborhood. The stabbings took place shortly after 11pm last night and, according to a Dutch police statement, “it quickly became clear that they were carried out by the same person”. Police arrested a 29-year-old man from Amstelveen who was identified as “the only suspect”.

There is currently no direct indication that this is a terrorist act, but all options remain on the investigators’ table. All the stabbings took place on or near Ferdinand Bolstraat and public transport services were diverted. No information has yet been released on the conditions of the four people in the hospital.
