The new president of the high court, Gerson Chaverra, said that, for now, they rule out convening extraordinary chambers to accelerate the decision on the new head of the investigative body.

During a press conference held this Friday, the president of the Supreme Court noted that the first round of voting went “harmonious, fluid and rigorous.” In addition, he expressed that it would be irresponsible for the Corporation to give a date to make a final decision on the candidates Ángela María Buitrago, Amelia Pérez and Luz Adriana Camargo.

On the other hand, sources from the high court announced that during the voting carried out this Thursday, President Chaverra and two other judges presented impediments to voting. In Chaverra’s case, it is because he has a brother and sister who work as prosecutors in Quibdó, Chocó. However, none of the impediments were accepted by the Plenary Chamber and they were able to participate in the votes.

For now, the election of the prosecutor is scheduled for next February 8, when the second Plenary Chamber of the year is convened, where the panorama left by the first round last Thursday, in which the blank vote won, could change. about the trios.
