Azar Karadas is Start’s new head coach

This is stated by the club in its media channels.

Karadas comes from his job as assistant coach under Bob Bradley in Stabæk. From before, he also has experience as head coach for Brann’s 2nd team.

– It is a great honor for me. I am extremely proud and happy and can’t wait to get started with the job, says Karadas.

– It is sad to lose Azar, because he is both a nice guy and a good football coach. But at the same time he has a dream of becoming a head coach, and when he gets the offer from there, we don’t want to stand in his way, says Stabæk’s sports manager Thomas Finstad.

Extensive experience

The coach also has an impressive playing career behind him. Karadas played for clubs such as Brann, Rosenborg, Benfica, Kasimpasa and Sogndal. He was also on loan from Benfica to Portsmouth and Kaiserslautern.

The 42-year-old also scored one goal in ten A-team matches for Norway.

However, after the 2019 season, the playing career of the former attacking player came to an end. Karadas finished with four elite series titles, one cup gold and one series championship in Portugal.

Criticized club

Now he takes over from Tjelmeland, who finished as Start coach in early January.

– I look forward to meeting all the players, the coaching staff and everyone who works in and around the club, says Karadas.

Start is struggling financially and was thrown out of the elite series qualification after the pitch was not in good enough condition for the match against Bryne. Afterwards, criticism has been hurled at the club management, and several have left their posts.
