According to preliminary speculations, the explosion was an eruption of a mud volcano on Dasiri Island in the Caspian Sea, which is about 30 kilometers from the coast of Azerbaijan.
The Ministry of Emergency Situations of Azerbaijan stated that the volcano is still erupting on a small scale, but there is no threat to oil rigs and residents. In addition, Azerbaijan recorded a magnitude 3.2 earthquake in the Caspian Sea early this morning, with a focal depth of 44 kilometers.
