She confirmed that on Wednesday the federal government will decide on an aid package for flooded areas which should include immediate medium and long-term funds. “Germany is a strong country,” said the chancellor, also asking citizens for financial donations for those affected by the disaster. Meanwhile, the death toll caused by bad weather in Germany and Belgium has increased to 171, while dozens of people are still missing: in Germany the victims are at least 144, while in neighboring Belgium there are 27.
