The Banco do Brasil Surfing Circuit is confirmed with 5 stages of the World Surf League (WSL) Qualifying Series (QS) in 2024. The opening will be on March 14th to 17th in a new place, which was not part of its calendar in 2022 and 2023. The chosen one was Torres, in Rio Grande do Sul, which will be the eighth city to host the Banco do Brasil Surfing Circuit. There hasn’t been a QS event at Praia dos Molhes for 20 years, which now returns to open the 2024/2025 WSL South America season.

Other new features for participants will be inaugurated at the Torres stage. One of them is the 50% increase in the prize pool for the male and female QS 1000, which is distributed equally to men and women. The other is a food voucher, offered daily to surfers who have not been eliminated, that is, who are still competing. This is the third year of the Banco do Brasil Surfing Circuit promoting regional stages of the WSL South America. They score points in the ranking that decides the season’s South American titles and classify 7 men and 3 women for the Challenger Series, the access circuit for the elite of the World Surf League.

In addition to being worth points for the WSL South America regional rankings, the Banco do Brasil Surfing Circuit also has its own ranking, computing athletes’ results only in its five stages scheduled for 2024. All are worth 1,000 points, regardless of the status of the event. be QS 5000 or QS 3000. The champion will receive an invitation to participate in the Corona Saquarema Pro presented by Banco do Brasil, which will close the Challenger Series 2024.

In 2022, Silvana Lima from Ceará and the young man from São Paulo, Gabriel Klaussner, won the invitations for coming first in the ranking of the three stages played. And last year, the champions of the five stages were Tainá Hinckel from Santa Catarina and Ian Gouveia from Pernambuco. Tainá Hinckel just won a place at the Paris 2024 Olympic Games this Thursday, at the ISA Surfing Games taking place in Puerto Rico. She will represent Brazil in the Teahupoo tubes, along with Tatiana Weston-Webb, Filipe Toledo and João Chianca, who confirmed their names for CT 2023.
