The Supreme Court of Brazil has decided to open a new investigation against President Jair Bolsonaro for spreading false news claiming that people who are vaccinated against Covid-19 develop AIDS.
The decision was made by magistrate Alexander de Moraes, in response to a request made by a Senate commission that accused Bolsonaro of “crimes against humanity” and other crimes for his irregular handling of the pandemic.
The controversial statements by the far-right leader date back to 21 October, during the live broadcast that the president makes weekly on social networks and which was then removed from Facebook, Youtube and Instagram. In the broadcast, the president cited reports from the British government, according to which some people vaccinated against Covid-19 had been diagnosed with AIDS, to justify his position against immunization.
