Chicago police said that at about 2:50 pm on August 15, on the northwest side of Belmont Central Community, an unidentified suspect shot a vehicle parked on the side of the road, causing a 6-year-old girl in the vehicle. She was shot in the chest and right armpit, and another 7-year-old girl was shot in the chest and torso.

The two children were rushed to Loyola University Medical Center for treatment. However, the 7-year-old girl died because of her serious injuries and the rescue failed. The police did not disclose the specific information of the two girls and said that the shooting is still under further investigation.

During the weekend, there were also multiple shooting deaths and injuries in other areas of Chicago. Local people said that Chicago’s bloody weekends were repeated almost every week, and the fear cloud loomed over the community for a long time, and the rising proportion of child victims was even more unacceptable.

According to data from the US Gun Violence Archives website, nearly 700 children have been injured by gun violence throughout the United States this year. Among them, 198 children have been killed by guns and an astonishing 499 children have been injured.
