by admin

There are at least three victims and several dozen injured in the earthquake that hit South-Western China. For the US Geological Survey the earthquake is of magnitude 5.4, while for the China Earthquake Networks Center it is a magnitude 6. Both institutes place the quake at a depth of 10 kilometers.

The earthquake occurred in Luxian County, about 120 kilometers southwest of the Chongqing megalopolis, which together with the surrounding area is home to around 30 million people.

A powerful 7.9 magnitude earthquake in Sichuan province in 2008 caused the death or disappearance of 87,000 people.
