Midway through the second half, the 21-year-old was able to roll in 5-0 from the penalty spot – but not without drama:
Both Noni Madueke and Nicolas Jackson looked set to take the penalty and Chelsea captain Connor Gallagher had to rip the ball out of Madueke’s hands before passing it to Palmer.
– Who is the penalty taker? Cole Palmer. Give him the ball. I’ve never seen anything like it, especially considering the position. Grow up! exclaimed Sky sports commentator and former Arsenal striker Alan Smith on the behavior of Madueke and Jackson.
After the game, Palmer was asked about the situation:
– Everyone wants to take a penalty kick, which is understandable, but I’m a penalty taker and I wanted to take it. Everyone wants to take responsibility and maybe it was a bit over the top with the arguing. But everyone smiles and laughs about it now, even though manager Mauricio Pochettino gave us a serious talk after the match, says Palmer to Sky Sports.

Palmer is now up to 20 league goals this season. Nine of them from the penalty spot.
Only his former teammateCole Palmer was brought in from Manchester City in the summer of 2023. Erling Braut Haaland (also 20 goals) is at the same level in the battle to become top scorer in the 2023/24 season. Four of Jærbuen’s goals have come from the penalty spot.
Ollie Watkins (Aston Villa) has 19 goals, while the trio of Aleksander Isak (Newcastle), Mohamed Salah (Liverpool) and Dominic Solanke (Bournemouth) share fourth place with 17 goals each.

Just before the break, Nicolas Jackson added to make it 4-0 for Chelsea.
One minute after full time, Alfie Gilchrist (20) had the honor of ending the goal celebration with his first goal for Chelsea.

In addition to his 20 goals, Palmer is also tied for fourth in assists with nine.
Everton are in dire need of points. This autumn they were deducted six points, before last week they were deducted another two points for breaching the Premier League’s financial rules. The club has announced that they will appeal the decision.
It is just 11 days since Palmer last scored a hat-trick, when he completed the feat 11 minutes into injury time against Manchester United.
