VALLETTA. The Maltese government agency for tourism (MTA) has decided to organize return flights for English students who tested positive for Covid and placed in quarantine. Overall, there are over 500 in Malta, of which 157 are Italian according to data from the Maltese authorities. The charter for our compatriots should start by the end of the week, probably on Friday.
The MTA, according to what is learned, this morning asked the leaders of the groups of students of the English schools to compile the lists of students placed in quarantine who want to anticipate their return, also collecting the consent of the families. The MTA is arranging similar special flights for the return of positive students also from France, Germany and Spain.
According to government sources, it is excluded that similar initiatives could be organized for the evacuation of tourists. From 14 July, free entry to Malta is allowed only to those who present a certificate of vaccination completed for at least 14 days (Maltese, European Green Pass, British and, since last Monday, that of the USA is also accepted). Those who are not vaccinated or have had a single dose must submit negative PCR tests done in the last 72 hours and undergo 14 days of mandatory quarantine in special Covid hotels at a cost of at least 1,400 euros for the stay alone. The only exception is for people who cannot receive vaccination due to pregnancy or diseases.
