Countries in the world where abortion is still prohibited

The American Supreme Court has canceled the constitutional right to abortion in the US in force for almost 50 years, overturning the Roe vs Wade ruling and thus leaving each state the freedom to adopt its own law, but in the world there are not a few countries in which termination of pregnancy is still prohibited.

– COUNTRIES WHERE IT IS FORBIDDEN, EVEN EUROPEAN MALTA IN THE LIST
In about twenty states it is not allowed under any circumstances, not even when there are risks to the health and life of the women concerned. Among these is also the European Malta. On the island, the doctor who practices the abortion risks up to four years in prison and the definitive withdrawal of the license, while the woman involved up to three years. For the African continent there are Madagascar, the Republic of Congo, Egypt, Mauritania, Senegal, Sierra Leone and Gabon. Eight are part of Central and South America, including Haiti, Honduras, Jamaica and El Salvador, which since 1998 has provided up to eight years in prison for termination of pregnancy.

– LEGAL ONLY IN CASE OF DANGER TO LIFE FOR WOMEN
In other countries, abortion is legal, but only in the event of a women’s life threatening. This is the case in the Ivory Coast, Libya, Uganda, South Sudan, Iraq, Lebanon, Syria, Afghanistan, Yemen, Bangladesh, Myanmar, Sri Lanka, Guatemala, Paraguay and Venezuela. In Brazil, termination of pregnancy is only permitted in the event of a mother’s life at risk, rape or a severe malformation of the fetus. In Asia, South Korea lifted the abortion ban in 2019, deeming it unconstitutional, but there is still no regulatory law.
– LEGAL FOR HEALTH AND THERAPEUTIC REASONS
There is also a list of 51 countries where abortion is legal for medical or therapeutic reasons, including Algeria, Cameroon, Colombia, Ecuador, Ghana, Israel, Peru, Kenya. and Morocco.
– IN ITALY LEGAL UP TO TWELVE WEEKS OF PREGNANCY
In Italy abortion is authorized up to twelve weeks of pregnancy, but remains inaccessible due to conscientious objection. According to data from the Ministry of Health, 67 percent of Italian gynecologists refused to practice abortion in 2019, a figure that rises to 80 percent in five regions.
