Courtney Love, lead singer of Hole, was interviewed by The Standartfrom England, to promote her new BBC series called “Courtney Love’s Women”
, which celebrates the power of women in music. However, he ended up making harsh comments about names like Taylor Swift, Beyoncé, Lana Del Rey and Madonna.
“Taylor is not important,” said the singer in the interview. “She may represent a safe space for girls, and she’s probably the Madonna of the moment, but she’s not interesting as an artist.” Even citing Madonna to address Swift’s success, Love made a heavy comment about the Queen of Pop: “I don’t like her and she doesn’t like me”.
Love also doesn’t look favorably on Beyoncé, who is currently blowing up the charts with a country album called “Cowboy Carter”, making it clear that she only appreciates its symbolism: “I like the idea of Beyoncé making a country album because it’s about black women. entering spaces where previously only white women were allowed. As a concept, I love it. I just don’t like her music.”
Despite having declared last year that her late husband Kurt Cobain and Lana Del Rey were the only “true musical geniuses”, this time she seems to have changed her mind regarding the singer’s work: “I think she should really take seven years off break… When I was recording my new album, I had to stop listening to her, because she was influencing me too much.”
The Hole frontwoman attributed much of her criticism to what she sees as female singers converging in style. “It’s great that there are so many successful women in the music industry, but a lot of them are becoming a cliché,” she said. “Now every successful woman is cloned, so she has a lot of music. But they are all the same. If you play something on Spotify, you’re bombarded with a bunch of stuff that’s exactly the same.”
