March 31, 2024
It is with great sadness that the Regional Council of Medicine of the State of Bahia (Cremeb) receives the news of the death of Bahian doctor André Luiz Peixinho, aged 72, yesterday afternoon (30.03). Born in the municipality of Serrinha, Dr. André Peixinho graduated in Medicine from the Federal University of Bahia (UFBA), in January 1976. In addition to being a doctor, he was also a psychologist and philosopher.
With a distinguished life leading Medical Education in several educational institutions, in particular UFBA, the Bahiana School of Medicine and Public Health and UNIME, Dr. André Peixinho also served as an active leader of the spiritist movement with reach throughout the country. 25 years ago, he, alongside a group of idealists, started Sociedade Hólon, a non-governmental organization that seeks to invest in human potential through health, education, social support and art.
“I met Dr. André Peixinho on several occasions. A person of friendly manner and endowed with great culture and unusual intelligence. On several occasions we came into contact with his social and didactic-pedagogical work. It was his great work which, without a doubt, is also his legacy. As a former postgraduate student, colleague and president of Cremeb, I deeply regret his passing”, declared Dr. Otávio Marambaia.
“He was a person of profound wisdom and kindness, always ready to listen and advise everyone who came to him. His legacy transcends the classroom and published texts, residing in the profound impact he had on his students, colleagues and everyone who had the privilege of knowing him. We express our most sincere condolences to family, friends and everyone in the academic community who feel the loss of a true light among us. May we find comfort in the memory of your smile, in the wisdom of your words and in the example of your life”, said the director of the Faculty of Medicine of Bahia, Antônio Alberto Lopes, in a statement.
For counselor Rosângela Melo, Dr. André was a person of indescribable intelligence and light. “He was my preceptor at the residence, president of my master’s committee, specialization teacher and guru on so many occasions. The world is less bright without it. Spirituality is certainly celebrating,” she said.
The burial will take place this Sunday (31.03), at 4pm, at the Jardim da Saudade Cemetery (Brotas). To the friends and family of doctor André Luiz Peixinho, Cremeb expresses its regret and solidarity.
