Several hours before the match, concerns arose about the match situation. There are reports that the match may be postponed due to an off-field incident.

Steps to assist police investigations

Quoting the Independent, a few hours ago, local time in London, the police began launching an investigation into a murder case. A man was found with stab wounds outside the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, precisely in the Northumberland Park area.

Emergency services actually arrived at Northumberland Park swiftly, before 6am local time. They tried to provide first aid, but it was too late.

The man with the stab wound eventually died on the spot. Because of this, doubts have arisen regarding the status of the Tottenham versus Nottingham match which is scheduled for Sunday afternoon, local time.

Until this article was published, the police were still investigating. There has been no further action, including no arrests.

Tottenham’s official statement

The club then issued an official response regarding the incident. Tottenham cleared up the confusion regarding the continuation of the match with the following statement:

“In response to the incident of someone’s death, we are making every effort to assist the ongoing police investigation. This is our top priority.

This afternoon’s Premier League match against Nottingham Forest will still take place as scheduled. However, please note that the entirety of Northumberland Park Road, Vicarage Road, as well as the northern end of Worcester Avenue, will remain closed throughout the day.

We will provide the latest information to supporters as soon as possible. We ask for fans’ understanding and patience to allocate additional time for their trip.

Our condolences go to the victim’s family and all affected parties.”
