Inter Milan celebrates Arnautovic
Marko Arnautovic becomes the match winner for Inter Milan – and is celebrated.
Match winner Marko Arnautovic was the celebrated man at Inter Milan. “Arna has become Inter’s lethal weapon. He is a player who never gives up,” wrote the Corriere della Sera after the ex-Bundesliga professional scored the Italians to a 1-0 victory in the first leg of the round of 16 of the Champions League against Atletico Madrid. “Inter manages a test of strength against Atletico with Arnautovic. Because of the Milanese’s performance, a win with more goals would have been fairer for Inter,” wrote Corriere dello Sport.

Arnautovic came on as a substitute for ex-Gladbacher Marcus Thuram at half-time and, with his goal in the 79th minute, gave Inter a good starting position for the fight for the quarter-finals. “Arnautovic wasted at least three chances. The fans spur him on and he scores the decisive goal in the end,” commented Gazzetta dello Sport.
The 34-year-old Austrian, who moved from FC Bologna to Inter Milan in the summer, celebrated his goal as “one of the most important goals in my career: It wasn’t an easy time for me. After the injuries, I needed time to get fit again “The fans and teammates made me feel that they were behind me. They gave me energy to score the goal,” said Arnautovic.

Coach Simone Inzaghi struggled with exploiting the chances. “After the game I have a very good feeling about the boys’ performance against a strong team. It’s unfortunate that we only won by one goal,” said Inzaghi.
