According to a report by the Ministry of Health of Cambodia on August 2, there were 560 new confirmed cases of new coronary pneumonia in the country that day, 763 new cases were cured and discharged, and 22 new deaths. Among the newly confirmed cases, 391 were community-transmitted infections and 169 were imported confirmed cases, most of them from Thailand. So far, a total of 78,000 cases have been diagnosed nationwide in Cambodia, a total of 71,000 cases have been cured, and a total of 1,442 cases have died.
The Ministry of Health of Cambodia stated that the more contagious delta mutant virus has penetrated into the community and spread. On July 31 and August 1, 109 confirmed cases of delta mutant virus have been found in Phnom Penh City and Otto Meanchey Province, Bailing Province, Siem Reap Province, Kampong Cham Province, Banteay Meanchey Province, Battambang, Tebenkmun Province, Prey Veng Province, Kampong Thong Province.
The Ministry of Health of Cambodia informed that in Phnom Penh, a woman went to Kam Mi Hospital for treatment. Test results confirmed that she had been infected with Delta virus. In addition, a cleaner and an emergency department patient in a Russian hospital have also been confirmed to be infected with the virus. The source of infection in these cases has not yet been identified. Except for Phnom Penh, 94 patients in the above-mentioned provinces were workers who returned from Thailand. In Otto Meanchey province, 9 medical staff were also infected with Delta virus.
Up to now, 223 cases of Delta virus infection have been detected in Cambodia. The Cambodian Ministry of Health and the representatives of the World Health Organization in Cambodia called on all people to immediately increase their awareness of epidemic prevention and take action to fight the epidemic.
In terms of vaccination, in order to speed up the construction of a universal immune barrier, Cambodia has initiated the new crown vaccination work for adolescents aged 12 to 17 years. Earlier, officials from the Cambodian education department pointed out that immunization of young people with the new crown vaccine is the key to resuming classes in schools across the country, and classes are expected to resume gradually in September or October this year.
