The 2024 elections in 10 villages in Demak Regency were postponed due to flooding. Demak Regent Eisti’anah revealed plans for a follow-up 2024 election to be held next week.

“We have already (coordinated with the KPU) the follow-up election, so on February 14 2024 (still flooding), we also ensure the follow-up election,” said Eisti’anah after a coordination meeting with the Kudus Regency Government at the Kudus Regency hall, Friday (16/2/2024).

Eisti’anah said the flood initially hit 9 villages in Demak. Over time, the flood in Demak spread to Mijen, increasing to 10 flooded villages because the Wulan River embankment broke.

“Actually, initially there were nine villages, but the water increased to Karanganyar and Gajah sub-districts, as time went down until Mijen added one village, of course the DPT was around 27,699,” explained Eisti’anah.

Eisti’anah said that according to regulations, the 2024 supplementary election will be held 10 days after the election on February 14 2024. The regional government continues to coordinate with the KPU to carry out the supplementary election.

“God willing, in accordance with the regulations for the 10 villages in the follow-up elections, and from the KPU yesterday we coordinated, so that if they are still flooded, we will divert them to safe polling stations,” explained Eisti’anah.

“10 days after February 14 2024, regulation February 24 2024. The Demak KPU has gone to the province, taking part in the follow-up election 10 days after Election Day,” he continued.
