Deutsche Telekom wants to free smartphones from apps

At the Mobile World Congress 2024, Deutsche Telekom will present a visionary AI smartphone concept together with Qualcomm Technologies, Inc. and Brain.ai. An assistant based on artificial intelligence (AI) replaces the countless apps on your smartphone.

The smartphone is a real daily help. An app can help with almost everything, whether for entertainment, shopping or travel. But the numerous apps can also be a problem.

When traveling, you need to organize your trip, accommodation and schedule. Until now, this meant visiting different apps such as train or flight portals, hotel booking sites or recommendation apps.

Visionary concept with digital assistant and without app

Al Mobile World Congress 2024, Deutsche Telekom will present a visionary AI smartphone concept together with Qualcomm Technologies, Inc. and Brain.ai. An assistant based on artificial intelligence (AI) replaces the countless apps on your smartphone. Like a concierge, the assistant understands your goals and takes care of the details.

“Book me a flight to the quarter-finals.” The intelligent assistant obeys your request simply with a voice command. The showcase uses concrete examples to demonstrate how an AI smartphone can make life easier when planning trips, shopping, creating videos or editing photos.

Deutsche Telekom’s generative interface, based on Brain.ai, makes this possible. Using artificial intelligence, it takes over the functions of a wide range of apps and can perform all daily tasks that would normally require several applications on your device. The concierge can be controlled easily and intuitively via voice and text.

Jon Abrahamson, Chief Product & Digital Officer at Deutsche Telekomhe is convinced: “Artificial intelligence and Large Language Models (LLM) will soon be an integral part of mobile devices. We will use them to improve and simplify the lives of our customers. Our vision is that of a magenta concierge for a smartphone without apps. A real daily companion that meets your needs and simplifies your digital life“.

AI for everyone

For the presentation, real use cases were integrated into Telekom’s T Phone, which is already available.

This underlines the Group’s commitment to introducing innovations on devices already on the market and making them accessible to all. In collaboration with Brain.ai, a pioneer of generative interfaces, an app-free interface was created in which artificial intelligence predicts and generates the next interface contextually, following the user’s thoughts. Users can now focus on what they want, rather than how to get there. Artificial intelligence is in the cloud. On the one hand, this ensures an authentic and rewarding user experience, on the other hand, it is accessible even on entry-level smartphones.

Deutsche Telekom will also present another version of AI smartphone powered by the Snapdragon® 8 Gen 3 Reference Design. In this high-performance device, AI processing takes place on the device. This makes the AI particularly fast, energy efficient and more personalized for each user.

The joint development teams of the partners are constantly working on the implementation of this concept. At the fair, the partners will showcase prototypes that demonstrate a possible future and bring it to life. It will take some time before they are available to customers in stores.

Deutsche Telekom invites MWC visitors to experience the future of artificial intelligence in mobile technology at its booth. As the company sets new standards and pushes the boundaries of innovation, Deutsche Telekom remains committed to reliability, privacy and security to deliver the best AI experience to customers.
