The FBI has tracked down a series of cryptocurrency payments worth millions of dollars made to hackers who attacked the Colonial Pipeline a month ago. The money is part of the ransom demanded by the hackers from the company to unlock the system, after the theft of 100 gigabytes of data that had sent the supplies of America’s largest pipeline haywire.
The FBI was aware of the transaction, because it was informed by the company, which in any case had admitted the payment of 4.4 million dollars. The tracking of payments, which would exceed four million dollars, could allow the identification of hackers, whose base is believed to be in Russia.
