Marouane Fellaini has announced on his Instagram account that he is retiring as a professional footballer.
– What an incredible journey it has been! I am so grateful to have played the sport I love at the highest level. I am proud to have represented Standard in Belgium, Everton and Manchester United in Great Britain and Shandong Taishan in China. It was an honor to have played for the Belgian national team in the 2008 Olympics, the 2016 European Championship and the 2014 and 2018 World Cups, writes Fellaini.
– I have played in front of the best supporters in the world and I would like to take this moment to thank them all for their unwavering support throughout my career.
The 36-year-old also thanks his family, teammates, coaches, advisers and everyone else who has been helpful during his career.
Fellaini joined United in 2013, and played 177 games before leaving the club in 2019. He scored 22 goals for United.
