Arsenal were down to 3rd place in the Premier League table ahead of the match after title rivals Liverpool and Manchester City secured a new three points in the last few days.

But the attacking players of the London club sent Arsenal back to the top of the table against Brighton.

After half an hour, Brazilian Gabriel Jesus was brought down on his way into the penalty area by Tariq Lamptey. Thus, referee John Brooks blew the penalty kick.

Martin Ødegaard stood with the ball in his hands for a long time, but then passed it to teammate Bukayo Saka. The Englishman was safe from the chalk mark and sent the ball into the bottom left corner.

The 22-year-old thus equaled his own scoring record in the Premier League. Saka scored 14 league goals last season.

A quarter of an hour after the break, German Kai Havertz doubled Arsenal’s lead. Ødegaard threaded a pass down towards Jorginho’s dead line. He cut in front of goal, where Havertz scored his ninth league goal of the season.

With four minutes left in normal time, Leandro Trossard won the ball in his own half. He then poked into the back room, before Havertz played the Belgian through. Inside the 16-yard box, the 29-year-old tipped the ball over the Brighton keeper and set the result at 3-0. It was also the visitors’ fifth straight match without conceding a goal away from home in the Premier League.

Brighton host Burnley in the next round, while Arsenal face Aston Villa in the next league match. Before that time, Ødegaard’s team will play in the championship match against Bayern Muchen.
