Five suggestions to make homes a haven of calm and relief from anxiety – MONDO MODA

Recent studies released by the World Health Organization (WHO) indicate that 26.8% of Brazilians live with anxiety. Faced with so many cases, how to deal with this problem? In addition to regular medical monitoring and therapy, a resource that helps in the process is home decor, which plays a significant role in emotional well-being.
The architect Julia Guadixheading Studio Guadix, highlights the importance of analyzing the whole and not specific issues.

“To create an atmosphere capable of alleviating the problems caused by anxiety, it is essential to consider not just objects and furniture, but the design of the environments as a whole. We must think about acoustics, whether through isolation or the possibility of having musical sound that elevates us. And we cannot leave lighting with indirect, yellow light to the background to promote a more relaxing atmosphere”, says the professional, who also highlights the importance of a good application of the color palette. “Shades of blue, green and gray contribute a calming effect”, she adds.

Lighting plays an essential role and is understood by Júlia in two sections: natural, which must be maximized in environments, and artificial, applied in a soft and diffuse way – it is interesting to be cautious with bright and direct effects. “Instead of intense light sources, they can be reflected from the ceiling or walls or even achieved through lampshades and floor lamps. I also really like the effect of scented candles”, recommends Júlia.

Plush sofas, ergonomic armchairs and cozy beds offer a comforting retreat where you can slow down and find physical and emotional comfort. The architect also highlights that the organization and distribution of furniture interferes with the feeling of order and control over the environment.

Plants, stones, wood, straw and other natural elements encourage the line that connects us with nature. Furthermore, the species cooperate in purifying the air and improving the quality of life in home environments.

A clutter-free environment and excess visual stimuli help promote a climate of serenity and, to this end, Júlia recommends keeping only essential items in sight. “It is essential to be careful and avoid visual overload and the accumulation of objects. The opposite scenario leaves us distressed and anxious,” she warns.

Finally, Júlia warns to consider cozy corners that can consist of comfortable pillows, scented candles and soft music. “In projects, I think it’s really cool for people to have a corner reserved for moments of introspection. Activities such as reading or praying invite us to look within and slow down”, concludes the architect.
