British fans posting racist messages will risk a Daspo of up to 10 years for all football matches in England and Wales, British Interior Minister Priti Patel said.
The minister has promoted a text of law to extend the ban on access to sporting events already provided for the authors of violent, racist and homophobic choirs at the stadium to insults online. “Racism is unacceptable and for too long football has been tainted by this shameful prejudice,” said Patel, “those responsible for racist offenses on the net must be punished. With the changes to the law that I am announcing we will ensure that they are kept out of the stadiums ». The amendment to the “Police, Crime, Sentencing and Courts Bill” is expected to be enacted early in the new year, the Guardian said. In July, Prime Minister Boris Johnson pledged to intervene following the wave of insults posted online against England’s black players who missed their penalties in the Wembley European final against Italy.
